Year 9

Topics covered

Music covers three main areas: performance, compositions and listening. In Year 9 the main focus in lessons is on students developing their own learning. Within each topic, students are given the tools they need to go on to structure and shape their work in small groups, giving them responsibility for their learning and the freedom to explore creative ideas. Students use a variety of instruments in lessons as well as making use of music technology.

The units of work for year 9 are:

  • Rhythms of the World 2: India and Punjab
  • Conventions of Pop 2: The Soloist
  • Film Music

 Assessment Information

Students are assessed informally throughout the units of work on their performing, composing and listening skills. At the end of each unit a more formal final assessment takes place where students share their work with the rest of their class.
