Year 12/13 Fine Art

Topics Covered

Students follow the OCR Fine Art syllabus. They produce a portfolio of work that will include an extensive sketchbook, an illustrated essay (at A2 only) and series of final pieces.

Y12 – Topics such as Still-life, Portraiture and Reflections are covered and at AS level there is an emphasis on experimentation and development with various media.

Y13 – Students choose which themes they wish follow at A2 and their projects are set through discussion with their teacher. As mentioned above they also have to produce an illustrated essay based on this theme.

Assessment Information

Students are expected to produce a portfolio of work over the two years developing the project set by their member of staff. The coursework is continually assessed over the two years with regular feedback given to improve work where needed. A final grade is given for the coursework and the externally set project. All work is assessed by the student’s teachers.

Other Information

Useful equipment would be a pencil, rubber, pencil sharpener, colouring pencils, ruler. However a small set of paints and felt pens would be beneficial to be able to create work at home. Students are also given the opportunity to attend a visit to the main galleries in London to enhance their artists’ research.
