GCSE Food
Years 10 & 11
GCSE Food Preparation and Nutrition
This course is new, from 2016 and will focus on developing practical cookery skills and a strong understanding of nutrition. It is an interesting, creative and stimulating course for students of all abilities.
There are five key sections in the course split into:
- Food, Nutrtition & Health
- Food Science
- Food Safety
- Food Choice
- Food Provenance (where it comes from)
Assessment
The new GCSE grading system of 1-9 will be used for this course.
A written exam is taken at the end of the course (worth 50% of your final marks and GCSE grade).
Two Non-Examination Assessment (NEA) tasks (worth together 50% of your final marks and GCSE grade), taken during the final year of the course.
One of the tasks is the Food Investigation which is appx 2000 words and worth 15% of the overall GCSE grade.
The other task is Food Preparation and makes up 35% of the overall grade. It is made up of a portfolio and practical, this includes a 3 hour practical session.
