Topics Covered

The KS3 science course has been designed to meet the requirements of the National curriculum for Science and builds upon and extends the knowledge, understanding and skills students have alreadys acquired on entry into year 7.

The science curruiculum will be delivered as a series of topics through years 7 and 8 that will develop the core knowledge and skills needed for students to be successful at GCSE and beyond.

The topics covered and an indication of when students meet them is given below:

  • Habitats and Adaption
  • Reaction of Metals
  • Keeping Cells Alive
  • Acid, Bases and Salts
  • Photosynthesis
  • Microbes
  • Waves
  • Electricity and Circuits
  • Magnets and Electromagnetism
  • Forces and Motion
  • Types of Change

Assessment Information

There will be a short writen end of unit test and the end of each topic (roughly every 6 lessons) that will be completed during lesson time. Student progress will also beassessed during lessons using set of criteria developed by the schoole.

Evidence from both types of assessment will be contributed will be combined to produce an overall judgement of a student’s progress.
