BTEC Level 3 National Extended Certificate in Information Technology

During Year 12 students will study two units of work. At the end of the first year students will have gained the Certificate in Information Technology, which is equivalent to 0.5 A levels.

Unit 3 Using Social Media in Business

Learners explore how businesses use social media to promote their products and services. Learners also implement social media activities in a business to meet requirements.

Assessment:

An assignment that is set and marked internally.

Unit 2 Creating Systems to Manage Information

Learners study the design, creation, testing and evaluation of a relational database system to manage information.

The topics covered are:

  • Relational database management systems
  • Manipulating data structures and data in relational databases
  • Normalisation
  • Relational database design
  • Creating a relation database structure
  • Producing a database solution
  • Testing and refining the database solution
  • Evaluating a database development project
  • Database design evaluation
  • Evaluation of database testing
  • Evaluation of the database

Assessment:

A 10 hour database task that is set and marked externally. It is completed on a computer and submitted electronically.
