Topics covered and assessment

This level 2 BTEC has two compulsory units; Human Lifespan Development, where you will explore human growth and development across the life stages and Health and Social Care Values, which covers the core values that support current practice in various health and social care services.

In addition to these, two specialist units are studied which include units that cover Nutrition and Health and the Promotion of Health and Wellbeing.

Unit 1:Human Lifespan Development is assessed externally as a 1 hour examination in January of Year 10.

The other compulsory unit and two specialist units  are internally assessed through a selection of presentations and reports.

BTEC Firsts in Health and Social Care provide a broad, solid foundation for progression to Level 3 and employment in the health and social care sector

This option is suitable for those who want to work in health, social care and childcare – with children, the elderly, people with disabilities and those in need.

The units covered will ensure you develop the knowledge, skills and attributes required to gain employment in your chosen vocation or to progress onto a higher level of study.
