Sport for all… and for life

Physical Education is taught throughout the school by subject specialists.

The aims of the Physical Education department are to:

  • Help children develop self-esteem and confidence through the acquisition of motor skills and positive values in a range of physical activities.
  • Maintain and increase physical mobility and flexibility, stamina and strength.
  • Develop an understanding of the importance of exercise in maintaining a healthy lifestyle.

Throughout Abbot Beyne pupils will be timetabled for one 100 minute lesson of Physical Education per week. During the course of their school career they will gain exposure to a range of activities including swimming and life-saving, badminton, basketball, tennis, volleyball, athletics, netball, football, rugby, hockey, rounders, softball and health & fitness. Within Key Stage 4 and 5 pupils are offered the opportunity to gain recognised qualifications within sport. For example Junior Sports Leader Award, Junior Football Leaders Award, Netball Leaders Award, Dance Leaders Award and Community Sports Leaders Award.
