Topics Covered

The course starts with a review of knowledge and skills gained during Key Stage 3.

Autumn Term: Students explore dramatic techniques in context. They will spend time developing skills need for the ‘From Concept to Creation’ unit that will be completed in Year 11.  This work is based on Devising and creating original Drama based on stimulus items.  Work focuses on how we create, perform and evaluate Drama.

Spring Term: Students begin ‘From Page to Stage’ where they explore a drama extract and develop this into performance. This includes editing, rehearsing and learning scripts for performance.  Work focuses on communicating the playwright’s intentions to an audience and evaluation its success.

Summer Term: Students complete ‘From Page to Stage’ coursework unit.

Assessment Information

Much of the assessment in Year 10 is completed within lessons and in mock-style pieces in preparation for formal assessment in Year 11.  Actual coursework will begin in the Summer Term.  Assessment is a combination of both practical exploration and written coursework completed in Controlled Conditions.
