This course emphasises the practical communicative use of language, teaching the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. A selection of themes are covered from the following: Introductions and greetings, numbers 1-100, classroom objects, family and home, town and directions, leisure activities, telling the time, food and drinks and school.
Assessments take place in lessons throughout the year through the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. Students will have an assessment in one of the skills after each module. The learning of vocabulary is set as homework in the form of a weekly vocabulary list which is sent over the Messenger system. Students will have vocab tests every week.
It would be useful if each student has access to a bilingual French dictionary at home and/or access to the Internet. The Online Collins French dictionary is useful, Google Translator is not! There are several websites that can be used for extra practice and reinforcement of new topics and new vocabulary. All Year 7 students have the opportunity to participate in a penpal exchange with students from a school in Alençon. There will also be a day trip to Boulogne in February.
