This course emphasises the practical communicative use of language, teaching the four skills of listening, speaking, reading and writing. A selection of themes from the following are covered: personal details and family life; daily routine; describing towns and cities: transport; travelling by air, rail and sea; school life; daily routine; buying food and drinks.
During Year 11, students have to complete at least one further piece of written coursework and complete at least one more speaking assessment, which will count towards 30% of their GCSE. Listening and reading are also assessed during the Year 11 mock examination period. The titles of the assessments may vary from year to year but are always based on the topics outlined above. Final external examinations in listening and reading take place at the end of the year. The learning vocabulary list which is sent over the Messenger system. Students will have vocab tests every week.
It would be useful if each student has access to a bilingual French or Spanish dictionary at home and/or access to the Internet. The Online Collins French and Spanish dictionary is useful, Google Translator is not! There are several websites that can be used for extra practice and reinforcement of new topics and new vocabulary. All Year 11 students should also purchase a GCSE Revision Guide or the teacher can purchase a GCSE Revision Guide or the teacher can purchase one of them. It is also recommended to get as much exposure to the language as possible such as listening to French radio, watching films in French or reading the French news online etc. Students have access to an Edmodo page with revision tips,links etc.
