September News

Over one hundred and fifty Year 6 students joined us at Abbot Beyne on Tuesday 17th September. They wanted to find out all about our Year 7 curriculum and our Skills of Success lessons. Through cake designing and decorating, students were introduced to our TRICs to successful learning. Year 8 students were on hand to explain how to be great team workers, reflect so as to improve the design, and apply fabulous skills of creativity. The outcomes were impressive and the enjoyment levels high.

Evershed was humming with activity on Thursday evening as we welcomed prospective students from our neighbouring schools to our Open Evening. Sixth Form students were on hand to guide visitors to all the areas. Other students helped teachers to explain what learning is like in every subject area, and also the many additional opportunities that take place throughout the year, including trips, House competitions and Sports teams.

Mentoring at Abbot Beyne has taken on a new lease of life. Smaller student ratios ensure that groups of five or six students spend twenty minutes a week reflecting on their learning successes in the previous week and setting new targets to improve for the coming week. This dedicated mentoring time really helps students to identify the key actions that will help them to make progress in the coming week and also helps them to be more independent in their own thinking.
