OFSTED

We are delighted that the outcome of the visit by Ofsted inspectors in May 2017 judged us as a good school in all areas.  We would like to take this opportunity to thank the whole school community and in particular those who helped by completing the online parent and student questionnaires and also students who met with the inspectors. The overwhelmingly positive responses were acknowledged by the Ofsted team, commenting that staff, students and parents “value the quality of education” [at Abbot Beyne] and “are proud to be part of the close-knit community.”

The Inspectors judged the school as Good in all areas.  This is a reflection of the hard work and effort put in by parents and students, the wider community, all of the staff at our school and our Governors. Ofsted have acknowledged the progress that has been made since May 2015 and the Report highlights the many real strengths of Abbot Beyne. We hope that you will take the time to read the report.

The inspectors recognised the many strengths of Abbot Beyne. Some of the highlights included:

  • Pupils now achieve better results in their GCSEs and make faster progress when compared to other pupils nationally
  • Staff work collaboratively to ensure that pupils and students feel safe
  • Students in the sixth form make faster progress than other students nationally with the same starting points
  • Pupils are well behaved in lessons and also around the school site. The atmosphere is studious and orderly
  • The Headteacher has led the school through a period of sustained improvement. She has demonstrated strong leadership.
  • Governors show a detailed understanding of the strategies being employed by school leaders … and use this to hold leaders to account
  • Teachers have secure knowledge, plan effectively and have high expectations of pupils. There is an impressive good standard and volume of work being covered across the curriculum.
  • Pupils and students demonstrate a strong work ethic and this contributes to a studious and diligent working atmosphere around the school
  • Pupils said the school is a happy, friendly and tolerant community

We can all be pleased with the outcome of the Ofsted Report.  This is a time to celebrate our improvements and our successes but also to start thinking about the next phase of our continuous improvement journey to becoming an outstanding school for our community.  The Board of Governors and staff are all focussed on that goal.
