Whilst the report has judged us to be a school requiring improvement, the Governors and I are very pleased with the very many positive comments made about our school showing the progress that we have made since the last inspection.
The inspectors confirmed that there is much to be celebrated at our school. They judged behaviour to be ‘good’ in recognition of the positive attitudes our students have towards their learning and the respect they show towards each other. We were delighted that students demonstrated pride in their school during the inspection – this reflects the attitude of everyone working at Abbot Beyne.
The inspectors also judged our Sixth Form to be ‘good’. They recognised the consistently high quality teaching offered by our staff along with the accelerated progress that our students make. They rightly commented on the increasing number of students gaining higher grades at A-level and moving on to the country’s top universities. This confirms Abbot Beyne as one of the top Sixth Forms in Burton and a destination of choice for a range of students across the town.
Whilst the school was judged to still require improvement in some areas, the inspectors noted that the school has significantly increased the pace of improvement over the last twelve months. The inspectors were very happy with the speed at which the Leadership Team is now moving to consolidate the recent improvements. In particular, the inspectors noted that changes in leadership of Maths and Special Educational Needs have had a positive impact on teaching and achievement overall.
