All students involved had an action packed day, filled with lots of advice, encouragement and the Sky Sports six keys to success. Maria has instilled the belief that anything is achievable with hard work and that it is inevitable that setbacks will occur but it is how you deal with them that matters.

The six keys to success are:
1.  Mental toughness
2.  Hunger to achieve
3.  People skills
4.  Sports and life knowledge
5.  Breaking barriers
6. Planning for success

The six keys to success are designed to help young people develop valuable life skills that will help them in and outside of school, now and into the future.

Following the day the students will be working on developing the six keys to success and build their self-confidence to go out into the community and lead sporting activities to primary school students.

Director of Learning – Performance Mrs Winfield commented: “Maria’s visit was an inspiring reward for our pupils who have shown great commitment and dedication to their Sky Sports Living for Sport project. The students loved hearing Maria’s story and sharing their experiences of their project with her.

Most importantly, our young people have learned first-hand that sport can teach them so much. Whether it is the social skills needed to be a team player or the focus and determination required to do a job well, Sky Sports Living for Sport is helping them to learn important life lessons.”

Lucy Walker, a Year 9 student commented:
“This morning was great! A chance to do something fun and let our skills of leadership flow through the school. Our Sky Sports – Living for Sport is a programme for young students to become confident leaders and we were lucky enough to have Maria Bertelli 2012 Olympian come and talk to us.  Maria told us about the journey she took achieving her dreams and that anything is possible when you work hard.  It was a brilliant experience that everyone needs to ry because you get so much from it and have fun along the way! “
