England RFU Visit

On Thursday 13th February, 4 members of the England Rubgy team came to our school, for a presentation, question time and  hands on coaching, tips and tactics !

60 students, both male and female from all year groups, were chosen to meet our England Rugby stars for showing great dedication to the Abbot Beyne Physical Education and Sport programme. A variety of students were represented.  Our students were allowed to ask the players individual questions and gained a fantastic insight into the lives of the professional players.

We put the stars theories into practice outside on the field, with three practical sessions led by our extra-curricular Rugby Link Coaches from Burton Rugby Clubfrom.    All of the players joined in with the sessions allowing our students to have the expertise of their coaching and knowledge.  Elli-Mae O’Mahoney and Tyia Henningham also got to discuss balancing training and a career with Vicky along with some useful tackling tips.

Shaun Bean, a current Year 13 students said “It was an enjoyable day for all involved and it was a great honour to meet the players and ask questions about their lives as a professional rugby player. They are inspirational role models to every aspiring young rugby player”

Bethany Taylor, a current Year 12, said “This day was thoroughly enjoyed by all involved and was a fantastic opportunity to better both our rugby and teamwork skills. It showed what an amazing community Abbot Beyne is and what a credit the students are to the school in order to gain a memorable day like this one”

It was an honour and a privilege to host the players at Abbot Beyne, with such an exciting day, the students will not forget this day for a while, we can’t quite believe they were actually here!
